Raising Rocket Weekly Journal Rocket the Poser

Rocket the Poser

One might think that a dog’s life is easy…and that may be so for most dogs, at least I hope so. We do everything we can for Rocket to have an easy life, free from hurt, pain, mistreatment, and with his past behaviors, possibly saving him from euthanasia. It hasn’t always been easy. And as I close out the 2023 year for Rocket, I reflect back to all the times that he had to put up with me! As an avid photographer, every single hike we take involves me insisting that I get a good photo of Rocket. It isn’t easy being a model, but Rocket sure does try!

Someone once told me that it is very difficult to get a good picture of a dog with black fur. Often times, their eyes do not show up in the picture, so lighting and close proximity to the dog helps with getting a good shot. Holding your dog’s attention and getting him to look at the camera often proves to be more difficult.

This photo is a perfect example of how lighting can enhance a photo…or the lack of lighting can hinder the photo. Rocket did so well sitting for this photo, but regardless of the amount of times I tried, I just could not get a good, crisp shot of his eyes. They just seem to blend into his body. But still, look at that pose on top of an abandoned bridge!

Obviously, a staged photo…this pup just wants to continue on with his hike!

The classic “sit on a rock” pose!

…or stand

Speaking of standing…the classic “stand on the rock or bench” poses.

Some of his best pictures are when he is looking away from the camera.

Then we lead into the bloopers….

Look at those eyes!!!

Some of my favorites were the “copycat” photos.

Whatever Frank did, Rocket did.

Puppy see…puppy do!

It didn’t matter if they were walking, sleeping, or just hanging out, Rocket often mimicked Frank’s stance. He even learned to howl like Frank!

Every single day!

Looking back at these photos, it amazes me how much Rocket clung to Frank.

In memory of Frank who crossed the Rainbow Bridge this year (2025). We sure miss him.

Thank you for following along with us as we tell Rocket’s Story. As we head into 2024 with Rocket, his story continues to unfold. Most days are good ones, and Rocket’s behaviors are managed quite well now, but challenges sometimes flare up. Tell us your stories and join us on our next blog as we share more about Raising Rocket!
