Raising Rocket is a story about a rescued dog that was rescued from a “Rescue Shelter”. Little is known about Rocket and his litter mate, Hoppy, prior to the day that we adopted him. Adopting Rocket was not planned, exactly. In fact, we were in search of a suitable pet for my parents who had not had a dog since theirs died ten years prior. After all those years of grieving and missing the company of a furry companion, it was time to look for another stray dog to love. We knew one happy pup was about to find a loving home, and boy was he going to get spoiled! Things quickly took a turn when the shelter became very undecisive about whether they would allow the adoption. At first, they said that he had a litter mate and that they wanted to keep the two pups together, then they changed their minds and said it might be best if they were separated. Never giving up interest, we pressed for more details and expressed our continued desire to adopt. Finally, the shelter decided to allow the adoption of the two together, insinuating that it would be best for them to remain together. And so, with the thought that these pups needed a good home and lots of love, we jumped in our car and drove two hours away. And this is where Rocket’s story begins.
